FAQ

FAQs

What floor system do you recommend?

That depends on the use, size, and budget. Typically, the Action Thrust 1, or the Junckers sport clip system are my “go-to’s.”

How often should you sand a floor to bare wood?

It too, depends, a good target is 10 to 15 years. Avg. floor can be sanded 6 times. That would give the floor a lifetime of 60 to 90 years! No other athletic floor can last that long.

What do you recommend keeping up my floor’s appearance?

See my Maintenance page for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance procedures.

Grading rules on Maple, what’s the difference?

There is first grade. There is second and better. There is third and better. There is third grade. And last, there is utility grade. All grades perform the SAME, they only look different. It’s a personal taste and a budgetary decision that needs to be made. I personally like the variation of third grade. Search Maple floor grading chart on the web.

Can I have my floor burnished (polished)?

There are salesmen who claim they can, but we have tried it, and it doesn’t look any different than before we started. Better daily maintenance is the key.

What’s the worst thing for my floor?

WATER!! It is the floor’s worst enemy. Keep it clean and dry, it’s that simple.

What is, and how important is DIN?

DIN is a testing Lab that measures the performance of a floor. The key criteria for DIN is shock absorption, ball bounce or rebound, vertical deflection, area deflection, rolling load and slip coefficient. Most of Action and Junckers sport floors meet, exceed or are near DIN requirements.

Can I put tape on my floor?

You should never put tape on a floor. It can lead to peeling or lifting off the urethane. If you have a special event, call us for a temporary solution.

We don’t use our gym in the summer, is it ok to close it up until fall?

You can, only if an HVAC system is set to low. This will reintroduce fresh air to the gym. If you live in an area with extreme temperature and relative humidity. It is critical to monitor the floor as it can shrink and crack the joints or worse, it can cause cupping.
