Daily/Weekly Maintenance

Gym Floor Maintenance

A SAFE SURFACE UNDERFOOT AND A CONTINUED HIGH LEVEL OF APPERANCE REQUIRES SCHEDULED, DAILY PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
****NEVER WET MOP A WOOD FLOOR !*****
DAILY:
  1. Pick up and dispose of debris.
  2. Remove chewing gum.
  3. When opening gym in the morning, Dust mop floor with a clean, dry dust mop, some floors up to 3 times a day. Push all debris in one corner, Vacuum corner and mop head when completed.
  4. Wipe floor with clean damp hand towel to test if dust remains on the floor. If dust/dirt is detected, repeat Step # 3.
  5. For normal soil removal, use a Ph neutral cleaner suitable for wood surfaces. Wipe excess off immediately with a damp bath towel on a push broom. Tacking floor once a week with clean damp towel is recommended. But not daily.
  6. Important! Vacuum floor mats regularly.
MONTHLY:
  1. Pick up and dispose of debris.
  2. Remove chewing gum.
  3. Remove rubber burns and floor marks with a damp cloth. If marks don’t lift off, try a ph. neutral cleaner.
  4. If a solvent is required try denatured alcohol. Acetone and lacquer thinner can be used sparingly and with caution. Test in a small area in a corner first.
  5. Tack or wipe floor with Ph. neutral cleaner. Hillyard Super Shine All and Bona sports floor cleaner work well.
  6. No athletic use for 30 minutes or until floor dries.
  7. No oil, soap or wax, ever.
ANNUALLY:
  1. For lightly worn floors, a light “screening” may be required and two coats of approved sports floor finish applied.
  2. For badly worn or damaged floors, consult Champion Hardwood Floors to determine if heavy screening or sanding is needed.
  3. Athletic maple floors can go 10-15 years without sanding when properly maintained. Which gives a lifespan of 60 to 90 years.
IMPORTANT!
  • Keep dust and grit off floor. (Use floor mats at entrance to gym and high traffic areas)
  • AVOID use of low-quality footwear that can cause excessive scuffing.
  • Try to keep food, gum and drinks out of gym.
  • ALWAYS use a clean dust mop. Keep a clean spare mop head on a shelf.
  • An automatic scrubber is not required on a wood floor. If you insist on using one, set the water flow at minimum setting. If water is visible, follow up with dry towels on push broom.
  • DON’T ever allow water or other liquid to stand on floor.
  • Accidental flooding: Call Champion Floors immediately. Obtain wet vacuum(s) ASAP.
  • Remove water as fast as possible. Bring several large fans and direct air flow in one direction towards an exit. If significant amounts of water have gone under the floor, call a flood restoration company ASAP. The longer the water sits, the greater the damage.
